Sustainability in the Home and Garden

Amelia Legare will talk about the O Zone Sustainability Center and Flower Power Native Nursery and how learning together as a community can bring out the best practices for ourselves and our planet.
May 17
Annual Plant Sale
8 am-1 pm, Palatine Park, Germantown
We will have locally grown nursery plants available for purchase. Plant selections include annual flowers, perennials, vegetables, and herbs. Garden club members will provide houseplants and seedlings. The club will also offer a Gardening Tag Sale and a delicious Bake Sale.

Annual Luncheon
Reds Restaurant, 12005 State Route 9W, West Coxsackie, NY
Reds has become synonymous with magnificent seafood and warm memories dating back to 1944. The nostalgic atmosphere and genuine staff make a visit to Reds an experience beyond dining out. The club will discuss the upcoming Flower Show in August.

Designing Arrangements for Flower Shows

Flower show judge, Barbara Campbell will be sharing ideas, tips, and demonstrating how to create floral arrangements with a special emphasis on our upcoming Flower Show’s design classes. She will also talk about exhibiting specimens for the horticulture classes.

Field Trip: Clermont State Historic Site
11 am, 87 Clermont Ave, Germantown
We will be touring Clermont State Historic Site. The tour will cover the history of the site, a tour of the mansion and the gardens which have recently been restored.
October 14
Preserving Herbs

Germantown Library
We will go over the techniques for preserving herbs, including different drying techniques as well as how to freeze them. Participants will leave knowing the best ways to preserve the specific herbs they are growing.
November 15
Holiday Craft Workshop

Club members Elke Crane and Linda Levitt will conduct a craft workshop for the holidays. Elke will teach the art of creating small Origami 3D paper Christmas trees. Linda will be teaching us how to make decoration-worthy bows.

Christmas Market
Kellner Activity Building, Palatine Park Rd, Germantown
We will have hand-decorated wreaths and table arrangements for sale made by members, a bake sale, themed raffle baskets, boutique items for sale, and member contributed houseplants for sale along with hand-outs about growing and caring for them

Annual Holiday Luncheon

Members are to bring a covered dish to the luncheon. Installation of Club Officers. A year-end review and committee reports will be given. Members are asked to bring a gift for the Livingston Hills Nursing Center residents.
